John Baatjes Artist Profile.JPG

John Baatjes

John Baatjes is a self-taught artist who always had a love for drawing as a child.

He religiously bought a series of weekly or monthly magazine books called The Art of Drawing and Painting collection and completed the collection.

After much deliberation, the medium of pencil/graphite drawings was chosen and John said that he created his "colour" using various shades of pencil in his drawings. He also looked not only at the subject but also the background and what you couldn't necessarily see at first glance, potentially seeing what most people miss in a drawing or painting.

Subjects are inspired by his love of animals and by encounters with wildlife from his native African heritage.

Many of his drawings have been given away as gifts to family and friends but a few of his favourite drawings are available as limited edition prints.

Someday he will venture into the world of colour, watch this space!

John hopes that those who buy his drawing experience as much pleasure in viewing them as he has had in creating them.
