Rachael Errington
Rachael grew up in the middle of an English wood where she, with her brother, spent most of their time building dens and treehouses.
This beginning has undoubtedly cemented Rachael’s enduring fascination with trees.
Although Rachael’s BA (Hons) is in Illustration, her studies included photography, textiles and printmaking; all of which have influenced the way she paints now. After various creative endeavours and travels, including a research trip to Asia to study the influence culture has on art; Rachael relocated to New Zealand and is now absorbed in the diversity that this landscape presents.
As time has progressed, Rachael’s tree paintings have taken on a life of their own. Intricate textures of bark created with modelling paste and other ‘secret’ compounds are tactile and 3-dimensional. The colours are the depth and warmth of autumn and the fresh lime green tones of spring.
Fascinated by the ever-changing play of filtered light Rachael encourages the viewer to step into the woods, to smell it, to feel it and to be soothed.
“I’m endlessly fascinated with using different techniques to recreate colours. I love being able to squash colour across a surface”.
Rachael constantly draws inspiration while walking and hiking.
“My work is emotive – It is all I ever want to do. “

Karyn Hitchman, Painter in Oils & Children's Book Illustrator
Karyn has started a new series, called Romantics. This is inspired by firstly her love of this group of artists' artworks, and then by a recent trip to the UK and Nederlands and visiting the galleries full of beautiful artworks held there, especially the Pre-Raphaelites exhibition 'The Rossettis' held at the TATE Britain gallery in London, and the Pre-Raphaelites drawings exhibition at the Ashmolean in Oxford.
I paint on canvas in a classic realism style using oils. I love painting in oils, having the ability to work slowly and mix and blend colours, sometimes directly on the canvas.
I worked for many years in the fashion industry as a designer and pattern-maker, then for several years guiding tourists on the mountain and nature trails of New Zealand's South Island, I have been inspired by these as well as history and costume. Therefore, I love painting colour, texture, fabric, nature, and I love painting people. I am a self-taught artist and have taken private lessons with some of my much-admired fellow artists.
I am a kiwi, and after moving around New Zealand for a few years, my husband (who is English), and I have settled in Oamaru - an arty, historic town on the east coast of NZ's South Island.
My paintings are found in galleries and private collections in New Zealand and other countries around the world.

Judy Curnow
Judy's style is impressionism, bordering fauvism, enhancing the colours and tones of the natural world. Painting mainly landscapes Judy finds this genre invigorating and reaches into the core of her imagination as an artist. She is fascinated with light and its constantly changing effects.
Meeting Tim Wilson, one of New Zealand's most acclaimed landscape artists in 2009 changed her life. After viewing Judy's work Tim offered to mentor her and take her work to another level.

The amazing years spent with Tim enabled Judy's paintings to get to the level where they featured in his own exclusive gallery in Queenstown. As the value of Judy's paintings increased, so has her global profile and her work has become highly sought after in New Zealand and abroad.

Oliver Curnow
Oliver skillfully navigates the interplay of light and shade, reveling in the art of juxtaposition and contrast. This dynamic is evident not only in his motif selection, it can also be seen in his adept use of two and three-dimensional aspects. His approach is nuanced, balancing a naive charm in certain elements with the precision of hyperrealism in others.
Each of Oliver's pieces is a labour of love, requiring months of dedication to meticulously layer multiple transparencies and achieve a truly distinctive aesthetic.
Oliver's art emphasizes the allure of imperfections—broken glass, chipped paint, and discarded objects become focal points, intentionally highlighted for their unique beauty. "Everyday life's overlooked details can be remarkably beautiful, especially when illuminated just right."

Kevin Dunkley
Solo Exhibition Now Showing in the Back Gallery
Kevin's retro subconscious trips back to his childhood, via his landscape paintings, have taken on a fluency that reflects the accumulative years of dedication to paint.
Despite sell-out exhibitions, Kevin remains grounded, "I started out not having a clue what to do or how to do it but by experimenting I have found a style I enjoy and I have become part of my paintings."
Still non-specific; they are invocations of a mood rather than true recordings. Reminded of a place (or time) viewers often feel a strong and personal connection to specific paintings.

JK Reed
Now Showing in the Back Gallery
New Zealand Water-colour Artist JK Reed is regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading landscape water-colourist, with works sold through-out Australasia and the United States of America.
His paintings, depicting street scenes around the world are held by notable persons as ex-President Bill Clinton, ex-Prime Minister Helen Clark, Jenny Shipley and are displayed in numerous galleries in New Zealand and overseas.
The abstract works developed from Art School influence and a keen interest in figurative and Cubistic painting. The medium of oil paint was a contrast to watercolour during those early years.

Bernie Kirkham
On Show in the Back Gallery
Bernie Kirkham takes us on a journey into a different world, captured by her imagination and interpreted on canvas.
Elements of steampunk and whimsical art works will enhance your reality and transform your spaces, an island theme which leads on from some of my earlier work but there is a bit of an environmental statement such as rising sea levels in some of these with the islands on stilts.
Bernie's an acrylic artist with imaginative and illustrative works being her forte.
Her colourful paintings and distinctive style emanate joy, freedom and adventure.
She's a story teller and her paintings tell a story about the journey of life.
